Hello everybody,

Thank you so much for your interest in Little Shop of Horrors.

At this time we have decided to postpone the show to a later date.

We will be using this time to work hard over the next several months to gain sponsorships, develop our creative process and build new partnerships that will set up Little Shop to be the best experience for our cast and crew. 

Thank you once again for your interest and support.  We’ll be back as soon as we feel confident that we are set up for success!

Initial auditions will take place at Birchwood Performing Arts studio by appointment only.

Please plan to be at Birchwood for 60 minutes once your audition time begins as you will be singing and dancing during the initial audition slot. 

We will see 5 performers per 60 minute slot.

Part 1 (5 minutes per person) will be your song and monologue, part 2 (40 minutes total) will be learning and performing the dance combo.

No need to dress up for this audition, please come prepared to dance!

Please arrive at least 15 minutes prior to your scheduled audition slot so that we can get you signed in.

Please prepare a 32 bar cut of a song of your choice in the style of the show.

An accompanist will be provided, please bring clearly marked sheet music in the correct key.

We do not accept acapella auditions.

ABOUT THE SHOW

The meek floral assistant Seymour Krelborn stumbles across a new breed of plant he names "Audrey II" - after his coworker crush. This foul-mouthed, R&B-singing carnivore promises unending fame and fortune to the down and out Krelborn as long as he keeps feeding it, BLOOD. Over time, though, Seymour discovers Audrey II's out of this world origins and intent towards global domination!

WHAT WE ARE LOOKING FOR

We are looking for talented and diverse performers of all ethnicities for all roles.

We aim to cast up to 15 actors ages 13-adult.

Birchwood Performing Arts is committed to inclusivity and enthusiastically encourages gender non-conforming, genderqueer, transgender, and nonbinary actors to audition for any listed roles.

We welcome submissions from all races and ethnicities.

Although the character descriptions use gender binary terms (he/him or she/her), we hope that anyone who identifies with any of the roles will come out and audition.

CHARACTER BREAKDOWN

Seymour Krelborn - Gender: Male, Age: 25-35, Vocal range top: G4, Vocal range bottom: A2

An insecure, put-upon florist's clerk and eventual hero. He is a genuine, well-meaning man who is taken for granted because of his clumsy ways and poor social skills.

Audrey - Gender: Female, Age: 25-35, Vocal range top: D5, Vocal range bottom: G#3

Bleached-blond, Billie-Dawn-like, secret love of Seymour's life. She has poor self-worth and education, but incredibly good looks and a sweet and vulnerable demeanor.

Mr. Mushnik - Gender: Male, Age: 55-65, Vocal range top: F4, Vocal range bottom: G2

The seasoned owner of the failing East Side flower shop and Seymour's nosy boss. He is profit-driven, greedy, and manipulative.

Orin Scrivello - Gender: Male, Age: 30-40, Vocal range top: G4, Vocal range bottom: G2

An egotistical dentist with a passion for leather and sadistic tendencies. Audrey's abusive boyfriend, who is targeted by Seymour.

The Plant (Audrey II)

Puppet. An anthropomorphic cross between a Venus flytrap and an avocado, the plant has an appetite for human flesh that is appeased by Seymour. Puppeteer doubles as other sizes of the plant.

Voice of the Plant - Gender: Male, Age: 20-50, Vocal range top: G4, Vocal range bottom: G2

An actor/vocalist located offstage. The voice is that of a conniving, street-smart 'villain.' A funky Rhythm and Blues voice is best.

Crystal - Gender: Female, Age: 20-35, Vocal range top: F5, Vocal range bottom: Ab3

Crystal, Ronnette and Chiffon are Black street urchins, acting as the occasional Greek Chorus. Young, hip, and smart, these girls are the only ones who have a grip on reality.
