Gary Richardson - He/Him
Hey everyone, my name is Gary!
With over 25 years of experience in the performing arts, I’ve had the privilege of working as a director, performer, and arts leader in Maryland, Washington, D.C., New York, Atlanta, and now Texas. Since moving to the area, I’ve performed onstage with River City Pops, VIBE ATX, the Georgetown Palace Theatre, and here at Birchwood.
Behind the scenes, I’ve served on the River City Pops Board, actively work with the Heller Awards for Young Audiences, and have directed a variety of productions, including Birchwood’s recent production of Hadestown: Teen Edition.
My goal as an Artistic Director is to create a space where artists of all ages feel supported, inspired, and empowered to tell their stories. I believe that theatre has the power to bring people together, spark conversations and ideas, and that those involved can discover and grow valuable skills that will help them throughout life. I’m committed to fostering that type of environment here at Birchwood.
I am also passionate about ensuring that our shows reflect the richness and variety of the world around us, and will actively be seeking out ways to bring more diversity into our productions, both on stage and behind the scenes.
If you have thoughts and ideas on how we can accomplish that, do not hesitate to reach out!
My inbox is always open.
In short, I am devoted to nurturing new talent, championing work that will help those involved stretch and grow as performers, and building a welcoming space where everyone can experience the power and magic of live theatre.
Thanks for reading this and I look forward to working with you in the future!
