What to Expect at Music Together® Classes in Round Rock, TX

You found us, and now you're probably wondering: what exactly happens in one of these classes? Do I have to sing? Will my baby actually pay attention? What if my toddler just runs in circles the whole time?

Good news: all of that is completely normal here. Music Together® at Birchwood Performing Arts is designed for real families, wiggly babies, opinionated toddlers, and grown-ups who may not have sung out loud since middle school. Here's a peek at what you can expect when you walk through our doors.

A Cozy, Welcoming Space Made for Little Ones

Our Music Together® classroom at Birchwood Performing Arts (4 Galloping Road, Round Rock, TX) is intentionally cozy and intimate. Class sizes are small so every child and caregiver gets real attention.

When you arrive, you'll find a cozy, thoughtfully set up space with a squishy foam mat to sit on, wood floors for dancing and moving, and mirrors along the wall so little ones can watch themselves wiggle and groove. We have cubbies at the entrance for shoes and bags, we're a socks-only space, so everyone settles in comfortably from the moment they walk in. Help yourself to complimentary water, tea, coffee, and sometimes a little snack too. There's no stage. There's no spotlight. Just a warm circle of families ready to make music together.

What Happens During a Music Together® Class?

Every class is about 45 minutes long and follows a natural, child-friendly flow. Here's what a typical session looks like:

  • Gathering & Greeting (5 min)

    • As families settle in, Allison, your Music Together® registered teacher, creates a warm, low-pressure arrival. This transition time matters, especially for little ones who need a moment to warm up.

  • Hello Song (5 min)

    • Every class starts with the Music Together® Hello song. This ritual gives children a clear, comforting signal that class is starting.

  • Songs, Rhythm & Movement (30–35 min)

    • This is the heart of class. You'll move through a mix of:

      • Singing — familiar songs from your current Music Together® collection, plus new ones each season

      • Rhythm activities — clapping, tapping, playing simple instruments like drums, shakers, and bells

      • Movement — dancing, swaying, bouncing, crawling (for babies!), spinning, however your child wants to move

      • Quiet listening moments — to develop attention and musical awareness

  • Goodbye Song (5 min)

    • Every class closes with the Music Together® Goodbye song. This ritual gives children a clear, comforting signal that class is ending — and research shows these kinds of transitions actually support emotional development. It's a sweet moment every time.

Classes are mixed-age by design. Babies absorb everything around them. Toddlers imitate and explore. Preschoolers start to lead and gain confidence. It's a beautiful, natural learning ecosystem — and it works.

Your Role as the Grown-Up

Here's the thing about Music Together® that surprises a lot of new families: you're not just a bystander. You're actually the most important person in the room.

Research shows that children learn music the same way they learn language, by being immersed in it, and by watching the people they love most. When you sing (even off-key), when you clap, when you shake a maraca with genuine enthusiasm, your child is watching and absorbing everything.

So yes, you will be asked to sing. You will be asked to dance. You might feel a little silly. That's the goal.

Allison creates a judgment-free zone where every voice is welcome, no musical experience required. The more you lean in, the more your child will too.
